It's September! We may not be having class today but that doesn't mean you have to miss out on connecting with our FIT4MOM community. Today we are featuring the awesome Dayna Roede! Enjoy learning more about her today!
How long have you been with FIT4MOM?
I have been with FIT4MOM for just over a year.
In what way(s) have you participated in FIT4MOM (Fit4Baby, Stroller Strides, BodyBack)?
I have done Stroller Strides and Body Back.
Tell us about your family.
My husband’s name is Kyle and my 14-month old daughter’s name is Samantha. We call her Sam Bam. The picture below is of us hiking in the Porcupine Wilderness State Park in the upper peninsula. My husband is a framer and I work part time as a physician assistant.
What is one thing you love about Stroller Strides/Fit4Baby/BodyBack?
Stroller Strides is what first got me off my butt after having Samantha. I always underestimate how hard these workouts are, but I appreciate how efficient they are! I usually skip Sam’s morning nap to come and I rarely regret it because she loves to watch me jump up and down and sing to her. :)
I just completed the Body Back program and I am starting the Body Back BOOST classes. Holy cow! It was hard work, but I forgot how enjoyable exercise can be in a group setting, especially with other moms with the same obstacles to exercising and eating right that I do. I felt empowered and inspired to work harder on my fitness, not only for myself, but also to set good examples for my family. And, I loved saying “Momma wants her body back!” when I was faced with temptations or a potential roadblock! (Such as a fussy baby as I’m leaving for Body Back class and I would say, “Hubby you got this, ‘cause MOMMA WANTS HER BODY BACK!”)
My favorite exercise involves anything with a relay or group activity where my peers are counting on me. I like to work hard for a team and it pumps me up to see others pushing harder just to benefit the group. Least favorite exercise - - - frog jumps up the hill at Manhattan Park…ugh!
My favorite food is SUGAR. I’m a true addict, not going to lie! I’m a junk food lover to the core - stuffed crust pizza, egg mcmuffins, cookie dough and ice cream!! If those were considered healthy, I would no longer need FIT4MOM to kick my butt.
What are some things you like to do outside of exercising and being a mom?
My favorite hobbies are hanging out with my girlfriends just chatting and drinking wine or reading a good book. I also enjoy the occasional ladies night where we can dance until we get blisters! (Blisters from our flats, not heels! lol)
What do you do for work or what did you do before baby?
Before baby, I worked full time in a family practice as a PA. I went on long runs and I SLEPT in A LOT! My hubby and I enjoy rustic camping and road-trips just flying by the seat of our pants. We tried rustic camping with Sam Bam recently - She did her very best, but probably not going to happen again anytime soon!
Have you played any sports in the past or what sport would you like to learn?
Have I ever played a sport? Ha! Unfortunately, I have no athletic skills that would transfer into a sport. I am known for having terrible vision and pitiful hand-eye coordination and I am deathly afraid of any flying ball. I have already put in my request in to be a phenomenal beach volleyball player in heaven :)
What is a piece of advice you can pass on to fellow moms?
Advice to new moms - Pick 2 or 3 of your girl friends who know you well and direct your thoughts, venting and questions there first! Experiences shared between friends who love and understand each other and already believe each other are wonderful moms who are kicking butt and taking names changes the advice completely. It’s more “go take a nap,” “drink some wine” and “I’ve done that too!” And yes, your friends think you are doing an amazing job at being a mom, we don’t say it enough, but I think it all day long!
And as a PA, I’d love to have all new moms have their social media accounts and access to blogs canceled for the first year! If someone doesn’t know you, they assume you’re a bad mom, and unfortunately, we all do this — it must be the innate momma bear in us to protect someone else’s child from danger! The online world is just too harsh for a sleep deprived, trying-so-darn-hard-to-get-it-right new mom.
I loved getting to know more about you, Dayna! Thank you so much for being part of our community!
