This week we celebrate Rebekah Spoelhof! Get to know this fun-loving mom :)
How long have you been with FIT4MOM?
I joined Stroller Strides in May of 2012, when Ronin was 16 months old.
In what way(s) have you participated in FIT4MOM (Fit4Baby, Stroller Strides, BodyBack)?
I've done Stroller Strides and Body Back drop-in classes.
Tell us about your family.
I married my husband Ryan in 2008. He is a Software Engineer and works hard so I can be a stay-at-home mom to our 2 sons. Ronin is 5 years old and Rhys is 2.5 years old. We recently moved from or starter home in Southeast GR to Ada, Michigan.
What is one thing you love about Stroller Strides/Fit4Baby/BodyBack?
I love being able to workout and take my children with me, I think it's good for them to see their mom taking care of herself. I love Our Village and all the friends that we as a whole family have made over these last three years. It's a wonderful community.
Oh man, anything that works my booty. Squats, lunges...anything to firm and lift! ;)
Our whole family loves tacos! We eat many chicken tacos with homemade guacamole. A favorite recipe to make is Creamy Chicken Tacos...I make a bunch - some to eat that night and some to freeze for a future dinner or two.
What are some things you like to do outside of exercising and being a mom?
When I find the time, I love going on dinner dates with my husband. We love Rose's and Donkey Taqueria. I also love sister dates with my big sis Myka. We enjoy grabbing a drink, getting pedicures, or taking in a chick flick. I VERY much love to bake. I have perfected Cake Pops and have been experimenting with French Macarons. I have no fear at trying new recipes.
What do you do for work or what did you do before baby?
Before becoming a stay-at-home mom I worked at Seven's Paint & Wallpaper from 1997-2011. I was in charge of the wallpaper department, and was also a color consultant. So basically I helped women/or men, mostly decorators, pick out wallpaper and paint colors for their homes.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
This is a great question...mostly because my husband asks me this all the time. He has traveled SO many places and wants me to be able to experience what he has. I would love for him to take me to Europe. I want to go to Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and France of course.
What is a piece of advice you can pass on to fellow moms?
This is an easy one, but one I have to constantly remind myself of.
"Comparison is the Thief of Joy." ~~ Theodore Roosevelt
In this world I think it is easy to look at other moms, and other children, and other families and think to oneself, "Maybe if I was skinnier, taller, smarter... Why doesn't my kid do that or should I be doing THAT not this?" We find ourselves comparing rather than enjoying the wonderful life in front of us! This quote is one that always helps me when I get in a funk.
Thanks for sharing Rebekah and thanks for being such a big part of our FIT4MOM community!
