Our final Meet Our Village Monday for the month of June! Crazy! I certainly hope that July & August won't fly by nearly as fast! Today's featured mom is Rachel Folkertsma. At FIT4MOM GR, we always joke about how pregnancies come in groups and Rachel was one of two other moms who were also expecting their second child during the summer of 2014. Hard to believe our babies are/are almost two, isn't it, Rachel?? Enjoy learning more about this awesome mom!
How long have you been with FIT4MOM?
I started Stroller Strides in October 2013 when my daughter Ava was a year old. Thank goodness I stumbled across Stroller Strides. I was new to Grand Rapids and didn't know anyone. Not only was Grand Rapids new to me, so was being a "stay at home mommy". This group has saved me both emotionally and physically.
In what way(s) have you participated in FIT4MOM (Fit4Baby, Stroller Strides, BodyBack)?
Tell us about your family.
My husband Mark and I have two daughters, Ava who is 3 and Emma 1. My husband Mark is a Radiology Resident with Spectrum and I'm a stay at home mommy.
What is one thing you love about Stroller Strides/Fit4Baby/BodyBack?
The fact that I can get a great workout in and the bond that the moms and children have with each other. Sorry, I gave you two two things that I love!
Squats are my favorite exercise.
I love Mexican food and French fries.
What are some things you like to do outside of exercising and being a mom?
I love to travel, spending time with friends and love to sit on a beach with a good book or magazine.
What do you do for work or what did you do before baby?
Before having my girls, I worked as a Social Worker serving the older adult population.
Have you played any sports in the past or what sport would you like to learn?
I played basketball, volleyball, and softball during high school.
What is a piece of advice you can pass on to fellow moms?
Take one day at a time and don't be so hard on yourself. Stop and enjoy your accomplishments and embrace your struggles.
Thank you for being a valuable member of our community, Rachel!
