Meet Our Village Monday: Laura

Today we are excited to feature Laura West! Although I have known Laura from the time she started Stroller Strides, I loved reading her answers and learning even more about her! Enjoy!

How long have you been with FIT4MOM?

I've been with Fit4Mom for 3 years.

In what way(s) have you participated in FIT4MOM (Fit4Baby, Stroller Strides, BodyBack)?

Stroller Strides and I did the very first session of Body Back

Tell us about your family.

My husband, Clay, is an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the western district of Michigan and he is a JAG in the Army Reserves. I have one son, Zachary, who is 4 1/2.

What is one thing you love about Stroller Strides/Fit4Baby/BodyBack?

I love our village and I think Stroller Strides is a great workout. When we first moved to Grand Rapids from Chicago a few years ago, I didn't know anyone. Meeting friends through Stroller Strides was such a blessing.

Favorite exercise?

Skater Strides and sit ups

Favorite food?

Seafood and tacos

What are some things you like to do outside of exercising and being a mom?

I like to read, travel, garden, and do crafts.

What do you do for work or what did you do before baby?

I taught special education in Chicago for 12 years before getting married and having Zachary.

Have you played any sports in the past or what sport would you like to learn?

I played soccer a very long time ago.

What is a piece of advice you can pass on to fellow moms?

As moms we are so hard on ourselves sometimes. I think we need to realize and accept that it's ok for us to ask for help and it's ok that we aren't perfect.
