Meet Our Programs Monday: Body Back

And here we are---part three of the four part January series featuring the FIT4MOM programs offered here in Grand Rapids! Let's talk about our amazing Body Back program today. I love all of the FIT4MOM programs but, I have to admit, Body Back is near and dear to my heart. The session I participated in was life changing for me and I think everyone needs to try it out sometime!

Body Back® is a results-based high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout designed for moms who want their body back, whether they just had a baby or their last child was born twenty years ago! Most importantly, it will help women unlock their personal possibilities in an inspiring and powerful environment. Body Back® clients experience targeted workouts, inspiration and motivation in every class. (via FIT4MOM corporate)

Our Body Back program operates in eight week sessions with two evening classes per week. Body Back combines the power of effective workouts, learning healthy eating habits, and renewed confidence in oneself to create amazing results. Two of our FIT4MOM instructors are certified to teach Body Back--Nicole (who has taught/co-taught five sessions) & Sarah (who has taught/co-taught three sessions). The current session is being taught by Sarah. I asked both of them for some of their thoughts about this fantastic program and here is what they had to say:

How Body Back is different from Stroller Strides/Stroller Barre:

--"You attend Body Back without kids so you have no distractions- it's one hour where you can focus solely on YOU. You will be encouraged to challenge yourself beyond what you think you're capable of and keep up the high intensity pace the whole class." -Nicole

--"Body Back is different from our Stroller Strides/Stroller Barre classes in many ways. Body Back is results-based program, which includes high intensity workouts, nutrition guidelines, and personal coaching all while having the support of a small group of moms . Also the workouts are kids free so that each mom can focus on what she needs to take care care of herself." -Sarah

What makes Body Back such an effective program:

--"The high intensity workouts combined with the group support, individualized coaching and nutrition plan gives you all the tools you need to succeed in your Body Back goals." -Nicole

--"Body Back is effective because it combines the support and accountability of a group with the individualized coaching/tailoring one needs to make it work for them. Also the combination of workouts and nutrition guidelines provides the perfect environment for moms specifically to reach their goals!" -Sarah

What they enjoy most about teaching Body Back:

--"I love the chance to spend time with women in such a supportive environment. We get a chance to really connect and dig deep and push our own boundaries to become the women we want to be so that we can best take care of our families." -Nicole

--"As an instructor I am blessed to get a front row seat to moms breaking barriers. Seeing the "I can't" turn into "I did it!", is the most rewarding part." -Sarah

Of course, I wouldn't expect you just to accept the instructors' opinions that Body Back is great. :-) Some former Body Back participants also chimed in with their thoughts.

Why did you decide to participate in Body Back?

--"Nearly two years after giving birth, my body tone seemed impossible to get back. I had a friend in Seattle who did Body Back there with amazing results--losing weight and gained incredible muscle tone. So when I heard about this class offered in GR, I made the leap into it."

--"I decided to participate in Body Back for the first time last January because I was overweight and needed a program that would offer support and healthy eating alternatives. I thought it would be a great way to lose post baby pounds and help me get back into a healthy lifestyle."

--"I participated in Body Back for me. Growing up, I always played sports so I was always a part of a team. I love a good challenge and this was exactly that!"

If you have participated in other FIT4MOM programs (Stroller Strides/Stroller Barre or Fit4Baby), what makes Body Back different?

--"I've gone to a handful of Stroller Strides classes and am currently doing Fit4Baby, as I'm currently expecting my 2nd child. Though I'm thankful to have Fit4Baby workouts now to help me prepare for labor & ease body changes, I'm already looking forward to signing up for another Body Back session after giving birth -probably not immediately but soon after. :)"

--"I have participated in Stroller Strides for the last year and a half and Stroller Barre since it started a few weeks ago. Body Back is a very intense workout meant to help you "get your body back" and without children in tow. It's a completely different animal than Stroller Strides or Stroller Barre. Body Back will make you push yourself beyond what you think you can do physically. I love Stroller Strides because it's always a great workout and I can bring my kids which makes me feel like I'm setting a good example for them. I love Stroller Barre because my kids can come along, it gives me variety in my workouts and makes my legs burn."

--"Body Back is different than the other programs because it is just moms- no kids!! We also have food journals and recipes to follow and have an online support group for all of this. It is a great program!! We're blessed to have amazing instructors in GR that care for us and want to help us succeed!"

What did you appreciate most about Body Back?

--"Everything I learned! A few things include the value of HIIT workouts (my Polar heart rate monitor measured ~400 calories burned during one workout!), the MAJOR significance of healthy nutrition and the importance of core activation. The workouts are no joke. They are difficult. So the fact that all of this was done in an environment supporting vulnerabilities while celebrating successes meant a lot to me."

--"What I appreciate(d) most about Body Back is the accountability and support. The instructors are always willing to offer tips to help me reach my goals and help keep me on track by viewing my weekly exercise and food journals. Body Back has definitely been one of the best things I have done for myself physically and mentally and I see myself continuing to participate in each future session as much as possible."

--"I appreciated the support from all of the women! We were all in this together and it was challenging for all of us. We were there for each other to offer suggestions and support- absolutely no judgement! I loved going because the instructors pushed us to do what we (as individuals) were capable of- everyone is at different levels and that is okay!! After each workout I felt amazing and proud of myself for what I just had accomplished!"
